RIDE OR DIE MAKEUP 2017
May 23rd, 2017
I am super excited to share with you my first beauty product post!
I am going to show you what my “ride or die” makeup items are for 2017. What is “ride or die” you ask? If you could take to a desert island only ONE makeup item from each category (foundation, blush, mascara, lip products, etc.), which would you choose?
FOUNDATION: Ever since I started this fashion blog, I have been paying extra attention on makeup products that are ideal for photos. You can imagine why : ) I have been happy with the Givenchy Photo’ Perfexion Fluid Foundation from Sephora. It is easy to apply, has light coverage with SFP 20, and your skin looks natural & luminous after application. More importantly, it works well with all lightings!

I hope all you beautiful moms out there had just as perfect a day as I did. Hubby got me flowers. Boys made bracelets from school and gave me a necklace (of course, we all know who actually got it!). We went out for a nice mother’s day brunch, and to top it all off I got to play tennis with my tango friends for almost two and a half hours! I have probably never mentioned before, but I love to play many sports. Tennis is one of my favorites。

Today I am sharing a few images from my recent trip to Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm. It is so nice to drive an hour from the city to see beautiful spring tulips!

BLACK FOR SPRING? YES!
Apr 27th, 2017
Spring time in Portland could be tricky but also kind of fun in terms of what to wear because of weather variances from day to day. On the street, you will see people wearing a t-shirt, a jacket or sweater, and even a winter coat. The upside of that is you can choose from your entire closet to create outfits.
People often put black color clothes away when it comes to spring. For me, wearing black in spring is perfectly fine as long as you find ways to light it up or add colors. In my outfit today, I used a colorful scarf to add vibrance to the overall look.
NEUTRALS WITH CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN DC
Apr 18th, 2017
Being a mom, I don’t get to travel much. But I usually manage to get at least one trip every year to get some “JUST ME” time. This year, I decided to chase the cherry blossoms in DC and share them with you in this post!
My photographer and I were there in the last weekend of March. The blossom was already at the tail end of it, but the flowers still looked very delicate and poetic!
I purposely arranged a natural look so I don’t detract from the beauty of the blossoms. Besides, wearing neutrals is always a good idea with all the colors that spring brings us. (more…)
CHANEL, YOU FINALLY GOT ME!
Apr 10th, 2017
You may already know my philosophy against chasing fashion. I do not drive my purchase decisions based on what is “IN” today. For me, style should expresses your personality as well as inner essence rather than being “IN”!

Spring in Portland presents a challenge to dress correctly with ever changing weather, even on the same day. Yet, I am so HAPPY the long cold winter is finally over! Spring is calling for colors and this electric blue down jacket became my first choice for the day. The light blue coat wasn’t planned in preparation for today’s look; but, the suddenly chilly windy day pushed its way in.

Spring is finally here!! When the sun comes out in Portland, the city comes alive! My photographer and I decided to take a short trip out of the city to McMenamins Edgefield.
I finally felt warm enough to wear a dress without tights or stockings to showcase a knit dress from THREE FLOOR. Apart from classic B & W, I also love the details of this dress: the an open-weave neckline, asymmetrical details, fringe and uneven hem. Since the dress has a lot of volume, apple or pear shaped bodies may want to think twice. (more…)
NW FUNCTIONAL TO PORTLAND CHIC
Mar 17th, 2017
Megan is a chiropractor and loves the work she does. She practices and owns Center for Chiropractic & Pain Rehabilitation in NE Portland. On the side, she runs a wine business that exports Oregon and Washington wines abroad. Megan’s overall dressing style is pretty casual and functional and enjoys dressing up for special occasions.
Megan is a very good friend of mine, in fact, she and I were born exact same day, same month & same year. How coincidental is that, right!? We see each other often so I have a very good understanding of her dressing style and knew exactly what to do to enhance her look. (more…)
A LITTLE FRENCH FLAIR
Mar 10, 2017
Although I am geared up for spring looks, Portland’s recent March snow inspired another winter look today. : )
NW 23rd ave, Nobhill area, has always been a favorite street for a stroll. Somehow the street puts me in the mood for a European look to match the atmosphere. Today, I was going for a little French flair as you already knew. : ) (more…)
FUNDING RAISING EVENT
FEB 28, 2017
My son attends a Mandarin immersion school, Northwest Chinese Academy, which is the ONLY full Mandarin immersion school in the Portland area. We love the teachers there so much! They are so attentive and loving beyond their excellent educational competency. Hongbao gala is the school’s big fund raising event, so we go every year. Yes, the cute kiddo in below picture is my lovely son. : ). (more…)
3 ESSENTIAL BAGS
FEB 21, 2017
A dear tango friend challenged me to identify “3 essential bags”. I gladly accepted her challenge and am happy now hear your thoughts about this post. What a great idea! Hopefully this will delight my friend and, all of you, my dear readers.
The 3 essential bags I suggest:
1. A tote bag:
As an example, this blue Ferragamo tote bag is one of my favorite totes. Generally, I prefer single use bag but since this strap is removable so I am fine with it. After all, you get to use the bag in two different ways. A tote serves many occasions: business meetings, conferences, everyday go-to-work bag…etc. The key for you is to watch the ratio between the tote size and your body size for good visuals.
Below are three tote bags I like at different price points. (Images are clickable.)
SILK DRESS LAYERING
FEB 14, 2017
I don’t know about you, but I have been getting a bit bored with my typical winter look–A cute, comfy sweater over jeans or miniskirt with a coat, or a sweater dress with over-the-knee boots with coat. Those were my typical winter looks and I was dying for a change.
In preparation for meeting a friend downtown at Kimpton Vintage Hotel, I spotted this silk maxi dress. Some may recall from my 10-year anniversary celebration party (as seen in the below picture). With spring is approaching, adding a bit of “flowy-ness” to welcome spring seemed appropriate to get out of the winter funk! Thus, an experiment with silk maxi dress over a black sweater with grey wool capri pant.
My followers might recall that using the same piece of clothing to create multiple looks is one of my key styling principles — “rearrange” in the header of my website. (more…)
GIRL’S NIGHT OUT
JAN 26TH, 2016
I can’t believe it has been so long since my last post. I thought I was just taking a holiday break. But then it was just one episode after another……I am happy now I am back and ready to reconnect with all of you again!!
As a styling blogger , one thing that I am very conscious about is whether my readers/fans will get tired of seeing me all the time. I tend to make efforts to have some other faces every once a while to give you a break. Some of the faces you saw in the past are my clients who worked with me for styling, some are just friends, some are Style Right team members. In today’s post, I went out for a girl’s night with 3 of my girl friends. (more…)
